VO2 Max

V02 Max

The VO2 Max Assessment removes the guesswork that defeats most exercise and diet programs. It’s an effective approach to improved fitness and performance. A metabolic assessment analyzes the volume of oxygen consumed (VO2) and the volume of carbon dioxide produced (VCO2) in a controlled setting to determine your individual metabolic profile.

Performance Evaluation & Training

Using the results of an initial exam and your metabolic profile, Gordon Institute will develop an accurate training plan based on your individual physiology. Our coaches will help you establish realistic training goals, implement your program, and monitor your performance. We also recommend metabolic reassessments to measure your progress and update your training plan to ensure success.

VO2 MAX: FAQ

What is metabolism?

Metabolism is the body’s way of converting food into energy/fuel and using this energy/fuel to perform our daily activities.

Is it true that metabolism slows down with age?

That is the myth behind metabolism and in fact, metabolism only slows down at a rate of 2% every 10 years. The greatest contributor to metabolism is lifestyle habits.

So how can we change our metabolism?

We can increase our metabolism through a combination of exercise, a healthy diet and good lifestyle habits. Through exercise, the body can be taught to be more efficient in burning energy/fuel.  The body can be trained to use greater amounts of oxygen to convert more food into usable food, which means less energy/fuel ends up being stored as fat in the body.

What does the New Leaf VO2 metabolic assessment measure?

The New Leaf VO2 metabolic assessment is made up of two different tests.  The first test measures the amount of calories your body needs every  day to maintain your current weight. The second test measures how many calories your body burns while exercising and whether those calories are mainly fat calories, carbohydrate calories or a combination of both.

So what does New Leaf do with all this information?

The New Leaf system will use all of this specific information and create a 12 week interval based cardio program to follow that will train your body to get better at using oxygen and fat together for the fuel needed to exercise. This is the key to weight loss through exercising. In addition, an effective nutrition plan can be developed based on the results from the first test.  This personal program will provide you with all the tools and information you need to help you achieve your weight loss and fitness goals.

After following a 12 week exercise program, what is the next step?

Once the first 12 weeks are completed, a retest is completed to see the improvements made in a person’s metabolism.  Then based on the new results, another 12 week interval based cardio program is created and followed.

Gordon Institute VO2 Max Testimonials

** “Before having my VO2 tested at the Gordon Institute, I was the type of person that tried not to eat too many calories everyday, but that strategy did not work!  Now that I know from the VO2 test how many calories I should be eating every single day, I eat more food and make healthier food choices. Before the VO2 test, I exercised a lot on the elliptical and did some weight training, but then I followed the 12 week exercise program that was designed from the results of my VO2 test.  I definitely felt that I was working out smarter. It was a great starting point to begin my fitness journey.  I now have more energy and feel great and I like knowing that I am setting a good example for my family.  I would recommend the VO2 test to anyone that is motivated to learn more about how to exercise smarter and to understand the science behind exercise.” – Alecia M.

** “The VO2 testing has had a huge impact on my life.  I have always been incredibly disciplined when it comes to dieting and exercising.  Prior to doing the VO2 testing, I was eating the number of calories that I thought I should be eating based on my small frame and was often hungry and lacked energy.  My VO2 results demonstrated that I was eating way too few calories a day.  Once I started following the recommended calories, I was able to lose those last stubborn pounds while eating more calories and having more energy.  This is a great program for those that are serious about tracking their calories and getting results.  It works!” – Allyson G.
